My youngest son was sick for a week or so. It was a calm, quiet time in our house. Now he is healthy and back to his busy busy self. I think I have finally found music that matches the energy he has on a daily basis. Sit back and close your eyes and picture a little blonde kid running around in circles hitting every thing as he passes them. William Tell Overture (The last 3 min sum him up pretty perfectly)
The Oatmeal (an amusing comic) talks about why he runs long distances. He runs Ultra marathons (50K) to avoid what he calls the Blerch. http://theoatmeal.com/comics/running I can identify with the Blerch - he and I are in a constant battle in my house. I run every other day and the Blerch often tries to convince me to skip a day or to run for less time. He's evil....... Last week the Blerch almost got me - I put off running alllllll day and ended up on the tread mill at 9:00pm. Wasn't a pretty run but it got done. Not thanks to the Blerch The oatmeal's Blerch - I heard you can get him on a t-shirt - I need one!!!
You know what sucks about one of your best friends living across the country (and in a different country)? You guess it - the time difference. She is 3 hours ahead of me which doesn't sound like a big deal but it makes it very difficult to find a time to talk to her.
My lunch is her picking kids up from school time. My after school is her dinner. After I have put the kids to bed it is close to midnight for her. Booooo. Now that I have been back to work I think it has been a month since we've talked. This is unusual for us as we don't like to go longer than about 2 weeks without talking. I have so much to tell her I am bursting!!!
Last time we went this long I forgot to tell her I got a job and she forgot to tell me she was going to NYC for the weekend. Time to come up with a plan - Operation "talk to Sam" starts this week.
Yeah Yeah - I haven't posted in a while - we've been super busy this past week AND the Olympics is on. Kid sport wise I can only sum up our weeks with a song
So there I was, over in Paris
Eating wine and drinking cheese
And this guy comes up to me and he says
“ Where are you from?”
Well, I says “Yeah, I’m from Canada”
And he says “Zoot Allure, mon Dieu, you are from Canada? Do you play
hockey?”
And I says “Do I play hockey?
Chorus
Well, I play Air hockey, Ball hockey, Barn Hockey, Bubble Hockey, Field
hockey,
Floor hockey, Ice hockey, Kitchen hockey, Road hockey,Roller hockey,
Table hockey, Twist hockey
And I play hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey,
hockey, hockey,
hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey all the time!
Take shots!
So there I was way out in California
And this guy comes up to me and he says
“ Where are you from dude?”
Well, I says “Yeah, I’m from Canada”
And he says "Wow! Where are you from dude?”
And I says "Look I'm from Canada"
And he says “Wow. If you’re from Canada? Do you like, play hockey?”
And I says “Do I play hockey?
Chorus
So there I was way down under in Australia
And this guy comes up to me and he says
“ Where are you from?”
Well, I says “Yeah, I’m from Canada”
And he says “Do right, honey child. If you’re from Canada? Do you
play hockey?”
And I says “Do I play hockey?
Chorus
He shoots. He scores!
We've been playing and watching a lot of hockey around here
Curling is great! I love watching Olympic level curling - it is just SO good! They make the difficult shots and some of the teams have some CRAZY pants. Congratulations to the Canadian Women's Team (Jennifer Jones, Kaitlyn Lawes, Jill Officer, Dawn McEwen) on winning a gold medal in the final match against Sweden. Whoot for you!!!!
An Emotional Jennifer Jones
Oh Norway - You make me smile with your funny, funny, pants
My husband likes to watch Monster Energy Super Cross (dirt bike racing) a lot. I usually watch it with him (while surfing the net at the same time) and am starting to know the riders and the stats. This past weekend they used a word that I had never heard before and I thought they had made up. It was:
I am so embarrassed.......may not be able to face my eye dr ever again AND we are in the same curling league...... I took the boys to the optometrist this week. My sister had eye problems when she was little (all better now) and this has made my mother ULTRA paranoid about eye health. I try to maintain good eye health by getting the kids eyes tested every 2 years. My youngest H is finally old enough to have his eyes tested. I curl with Dr R - he's a young guy and pretty funny and I thought he'd be a good fit for the family. I made appointments and we went in to see him. H was very nervous about all the machinery so he watched J do all the pre testing and felt better about the process.
Once we got into see Dr. R the embarrassing part happened. While J was having his eyes tested H let out a ripper of a toot. Then he giggled and refused to say excuse me AND we are in a tiny little exam room and it was so stinky. Dr. R made a little joke about how he always called toots barking spiders to try and make it less awkward. Then when he was examining H's eyes H let out another toot in the chair. J and I got the giggles and we howled in the exam room. Not a proud parenting moment. Boys are weird AND embarrassing.
The Husband does not like star trek. Normally this is not a problem except when it is. I was watching STNG (Star Trek Next Generation) on Netflix for a while and he actually complained about it. How dare he!!
I was so upset that Netflix pulled STNG that I called to complain and I got on the bring STNG back board. Whatever that means.
We live in a semi desert area of Canada and it is normally very very sunny, hot and dry. The month of January was overcast and warm (-2 was about the coldest day), which was fine with me. I like a mild winter.
The problem was the people in town are used to sun and the gloom was driving them batty. They kept saying "I wish it was sunny". Well the sun came out this week, and so did the cold weather. -18 today brrrrrrrrrrrrrr. Now don't get me wrong -that isn't Northern Canada cold. But it is cold for here. Bring back the clouds - I can see the sun in the summer
My friend Ry-Ann and I have a little "mom" business. We make reusable lunch sets - good for the environment and cute. Check it out! https://www.facebook.com/TheCuttingEdgeMamas
My little one H was being a turd the other day. My older one was trying to parent him and said "If you keep this up and if you are bad in school then you are going to go to the principal's office." H said "That's ok, I get candy when I go to the principal's office" Drat - that is actually true. The school secretary has treats on her desk. Once she learned that H has allergies she bought him special treats that she keeps locked up until he comes to visit. Obviously that is not a valid threat...... will have to think about it
My cousin is apparently a huge Seahawks fan - he went to NYC to watch the Superbowl on Sunday. I can't imagine what the trip cost, tickets alone would have been $1000!
I am not into foot ball - I don't get the rules and it looks violent and painful. If I want violence I will watch my kids play with each other. My kids can make wrestle mania look tame on a good day. I just don't get the hype. Other than the funny commercials (which we as Canadians don't get to see) what is the big deal? I follow a cartoonist online called the "oatmeal". He drew a cartoon that sums up football for me. There is also lots of butt slapping and fist pumping.
